5 Minute Hawaiian Pita Pizza

I make this recipe for my daughter’s lunch and sometimes for her friends. It's been a hit!!
This recipe is part of our 5-Day School Lunch Menu.

This pita pizza is on whole wheat pita bread with fresh pineapple, fat-free ham and low fat cheddar cheese.

Ingredients:

1 small pita bread (whole wheat optional)
2-3 tbsp pizza sauce
1 slice of ham (black forest or honey ham)
2 tbsp of pineapple
Handful of medium low fat Cheddar, Mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese

Directions:

Place Oven on Broil

  • Spoon sauce over pita bread, making sure to bring sauce to the edge
  • Cut ham into1 inch pieces and lay on pita Add pineapple
    Sprinkle with cheese
  • Lay on pizza pan or cookie sheet on lower oven rack
  • Broil for 5 minutes then remove and cool
  • Cut pizza in half and again in half for 4 pizza pieces
  • Place in container for lunch

Presentation Tip: Ensure other classmates see that you have pizza but indicate there isn't enough to share. Just kidding, always share:)

Hint:

  • Make your own pizza sauce and freeze it in small containers.
  • There is a store bought squeeze bottle pizza sauce by Primo which is convenient and lasts quite a while in the fridge.
